This is the first of the greatest series of buddy movies of all time. Everything started here. Although an excellent film on its own, Lethal Weapon cannot be fully enjoyed without seeing the entire series. This film is the most dark and serious of the series, but is still a really fun movie. The director's cut is an excellent edition of the film. One of the most amazing things about this series is the fact that the cast has remained the same -- all returning characters are played by the same actors. This movie was made before Gibson was a huge star. The only memorable work he had done before this was the Mad Max movies. In fact, Glover was much better known at the time. Originally, Riggs and Murtaugh were supposed to go their separate ways at the end of the movie. Thank goodnes that ended up on the floor of the editting room or we'd be short three excellent films and Warner Brothers would be short millions of dollars.
